Start 2020 With A Brighter Smile

With the New Year just a few days away, many people are looking at making changes to their life. If you would like to greet the New Year with a new smile, then we can help with cosmetic treatment options. In today’s blog, your Newhall, CA, dentist talks about how we remove discoloration with our cosmetic teeth whitening treatment.

Our Teeth Whitening Treatment

We start with an initial office treatment. During the same visit, we will take detailed impressions of your smile to create a set of plastic trays that fit comfortably. We send you home with the trays, as well as a powerful bleaching gel. At home, you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. The trays held spread the gel evenly across the teeth. The gel will begin breaking up discoloration and optimal results will be available in as little as a week to ten days. For some, smiles could be brightened by several shades!

Keeping Your Smile Bright

Following treatment, remember that you can keep the trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups down the road. In addition, you can help your results last by consuming fewer beverages with dark pigments, such as soda, red wine, tea, and coffee. Avoiding sugary and starchy foods also helps by limiting the severity of plaque buildup on the teeth. Make time to see us every six months so we can clean your teeth as well, as this procedure removes all plaque and tartar to help brighten the appearance of your smile. Finally, be sure you’re brushing and flossing daily as your dentist recommends!

What About Permanent Stains?

Most stains form on the surface of the teeth and are easily removed. We call this extrinsic discoloration. But intrinsic discoloration, which forms beneath the outer enamel, is often difficult to remove with common whitening treatments or store-bought systems. Instead, we may simply mask them with other cosmetic treatment options. With dental bonding, we can use composite resin to mask them and also address issues with the tooth’s shape. Veneers, thin shells of porcelain, can also cover stains and address a host of other cosmetic treatment options. If you would like to learn more and start the holiday season with a brighter smile, then contact our team today. We would love you help obtain a smile you can feel proud to show the world!
