How Tooth Extraction Could Help Your Smile

When you have an issue with one or more teeth that cannot be addressed with a crown or filling, then moving the tooth could protect your smile from major complications. Which is why our team offers dental extraction to protect the smile. In today’s blog, your Newhall, CA, dentist talks about the benefits of tooth extraction.

The Reasons We Remove Teeth

We could take out a tooth that develops tooth decay or infection too severe to be treated with a restoration, or one too broken or fractured to be repaired with a crown. In addition, we could remove teeth loosened by gum disease, or take out teeth to facilitate orthodontic treatment. Removal is also possible to improve bite function or chewing abilities. The most common reason is to prevent the onset of wisdom tooth impaction. Wisdom teeth arrive in our late teens and early 20s, and up to four of them could erupt. This could lead to misalignment, infected or damaged teeth, and the painful partial eruptions known as impaction. But we could prevent these issues by taking them out before they even arrive.

Keeping You Comfortable

We want to make sure your procedure is a comfortable one. To do so, our team will administer a local anesthetic to the area being treated. We also have dental sedation to help you enter a calm and relaxed state, with little to no memory of the procedure at all. We will provide detailed instructions to help you prepare for the procedure, and we will suggest having a friend or family member on hand to take you home afterward. We will plan the procedure with advanced digital imaging technology, using digital x-rays to plan the position of the teeth, as well as surrounding nerve tissue and sinus cavities to ensure a comfortable and complication-free procedure.

Removing Your Teeth

Once you’re ready, we will gently remove the tooth with a pair of forceps and then suture the area closed. The entire process could take as little as 30 minutes. We then send you home with prescriptions for medications to help facilitate a fast-healing process, and detailed instructions too. You will need to rest for a day or two, and we can remove sutures in a follow up visit. If you have any questions about tooth extraction, then contact our team today to learn more. There is still time to see us before the year ends and your dental benefits expire!
