Do you wish your smile could be brighter? We understand, as our patients in Newhall, CA, often talk to us about our cosmetic whitening options. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about our professional teeth whitening system, and how we help brighten smiles by several shades. In addition, we’re going to talk about how we mask permanent teeth stains and protect smiles from discoloration.
With the Zoom! System, we combine in-office and home-based whitening treatments into a single option designed to brighten teeth by several shades. We begin with an initial in-office treatment, in which we place a protective covering over your lips and gums before applying the bleaching gel to your teeth. We activate the gel with a light to begin breaking up discoloration. This portion takes about one to two hours to complete. We then send you home with a custom-made set of plastic trays and more bleaching gel. At home, you will fill the trays will the gel and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes a day, over the course of a week to ten days. You can then keep the trays and remaining gel for touch-ups down the road.
Once you see your newly brightened smile, you’re going to want to do everything you can to ensure your teeth stay bright. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to avoid discoloration, and protect your smile’s health in the process. For example, be sure you brush your teeth twice daily for two minutes, and always floss before going to bed. These actions remove food particles from your smile, which help prevent serious plaque buildup. A common cause of teeth stains, plaque is also linked to higher risks of tooth decay and gum disease. Remember that sugary foods and drinks also promote plaque buildup, so try to enjoy healthier snack and drink options. Try to cut back on drinks with dark pigments as well, such as soda, tea, red wine, and coffee, which can discolor your smile. Finally, make time to visit us for a dental cleaning every six months, which allows our team to remove plaque buildup completely.
Most teeth stains form on the surface of our teeth and are easily removed with teeth whitening. However, should discoloration develop below the enamel, known as intrinsic staining, they may be difficult to remove. In order to brighten your smile, we may mask these stains with porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or a combination of these two options.
