Complete Dentures That Function Like Real Teeth

When you have lost the majority of your natural teeth, or possibly all of them, you need a complete prosthetic to restore function and beauty to your smile. When we craft a full set of dentures, whether they’re removable or implant-secured, we want them to look and act like real teeth. In today’s blog, your Newhall, CA, dentist talks about full dentures.

The Dangers of Major Tooth Loss

Losing a major number of your natural teeth could mean serious trouble for your oral health and the function of your smile. This limits what you can eat and could even make eating your favorite foods a difficult process. Speaking clearly could even be difficult! To avoid these complications with your oral health and quality of life, we need to address your tooth loss with a complete prosthetic.

Designing Your Prosthetic

To begin, we may need to extract the few remaining teeth. We then take detailed digital images and measurements of your smile, which we use in a lab setting to design and craft the finished product. The prosthetic contains an acrylic base that is designed to look like gum tissues. We then insert a full set of teeth, crafted from durable and lifelike materials, like ceramic. We shade them to look natural. These will be removable, with the lower set being in place with suction and the upper set requiring the use of a special adhesive. They will need to be taken out for cleaning and soaking too.

Dental Implants

For greater stability, and to ensure your new teeth can last more then 5 to 10 years, we could attach the denture to dental implants. We insert them directly into your jawbone, where they bond with the one tissue and act like natural roots. The prosthetic is attached to them, which means no need to remove dentures for cleaning or soaking, and they could last for decades to come, or possibly even a lifetime. We will help you find out if removable or implant-supported options are best for you, and we may need to treat the underlying causes of your missing teeth.

We want to return your smile to optimal health, function, and appearance, and to do so we need to replace your missing teeth. Even if you’ve lived with near-total tooth loss for several years, we could still help with a custom prosthetic. If you have any questions, then please contact our team today to learn more.
