We don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to tooth replacement. When we see patients missing most or all of their teeth, we can help address the gaps with a denture. Our prosthetics, whether full or partial, are custom-fitted to ensure a lifelike appearance and comfortable fit. In today’s blog, your Newhall, CA, dentist talks about creating custom dentures.
Full vs. Partial
First, let’s talk about the main two options for addressing more severe cases of tooth loss. A partial means there is several gaps in your smile, often spread out across your smile. This could be too much for a single bridge, but not severe enough to remove extracting teeth and placing a complete denture. Instead, we have an option that contains new teeth, or pontics, set in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues. There will be metal clasps, that while invisible when worn, attach to natural teeth to secure your new prosthetic firmly.
What if you’re missing all or most of your teeth? Then we could remove any few remaining ones, and create a denture that contains an entire row of teeth set in an acrylic base. Suction will hold the lower jaw version in place, while the upper arch one may benefit from a special adhesive.
Creating a Custom Fit
No matter which option we prescribe, we will take steps to ensure a comfortable fit. After all, we want you to feel comfortable when you smile and eat, and we also want to preserve the balance of your bite to prevent complications like TMJ disorder or bruxism. To begin, our team gathers detailed digital scans of the smile, which we combine to create a detailed 3D impression. The impression is used in a dental lab to design and craft the custom-made dental prosthetic.
The Benefits of Your Dentures
The prosthetic will enable you to smile with confidence, enjoy social interactions, and even eat a greater variety of foods, improving both overall health and your quality of life. You avoid complications of tooth loss like misalignment or jaw joint strain as well.
