We understand how tooth loss impacts overall appearance and quality of life. We also understand how missing teeth impact oral health, and the serious complications they pose for overall health as well. In order to help our patients in Newhall, CA, with tooth loss, we may suggest a custom-made prosthetic. Will your smile benefit from a bridge, denture, or advanced dental implant?
The Dangers of Tooth Loss
When we lose a tooth, the gap in our smiles could mean surrounding teeth actually drift from position, causing misalignment. An uneven smile has been linked to greater risks of tooth decay and gum disease. Tooth loss may also lead to pressure on your jaw joints, which makes the onset of TMJ disorder and bruxism, both factors that could lead to headaches and jaw pain, more likely. The jawbone may lose density and the body will no longer provide the tissue around a missing tooth with doses of calcium and phosphorus. Over time, this means the tissue breaks down and the risk of further tooth loss increases.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge addresses between one and three missing teeth in a row. The prosthetic contains your new teeth, along with dental crowns attached the end. Our team will remove the outer structure from the teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. We then take impressions and design the prosthetic, placing the crowns onto these teeth and anchoring the new ones in place. With proper care and attention, your new dental bridge could last between 10 and 15 years on average.
Full and Partial Dentures
Dentures address more substantial cases of tooth loss. If you have a number of missing teeth spread out across the arch, then we may prescribe a partial. The denture contains your new teeth and a base made from acrylic that looks like gum tissue. The metal clasps on the partial will attach to surrounding teeth and anchor your new ones in place. A full replaces every tooth on one or both arches, offering a completely new smile. Natural suction will hold this option in place. Both will be created using lifelike materials to ensure a natural looking appearance.
Implant Dentistry
Dental implants will be inserted into the jawbone, guided in place with advanced CT technology. After they bond with the jawbone, we will add a restoration to complete your new tooth. They can lasts decades with care and attention, and in addition to replacing a single missing tooth, can be used to secure a fixed prosthetic, such as a bridge or denture.
